Vintage Blanket Wool Hunting Jacket #1
Originally from the 1950-60’s, this wool was woven in Bloomfield Indiana Wool Mills and is a reproduction of what is known as paper mill blankets. Paper mill blankets were the off cuts of giant belts made of wool, used to maintain consistency during the manufacture of paper. The blankets were mostly given to the paper mill workers and over the years became beloved for their weight and effectiveness. These attributes make it perfect for the first Huckleberry Woodchuck jacket.
Everywhere the jacket touches the skin has been crafted with intention. The cuffs and collar are lined with a super soft heavyweight linen that has been garment dyed by Matteo in Los Angeles and the sleeve lining is vintage Yves Saint Laurent. The trim is done in a contrasting unbrushed spruce green flannel with topstitched splices.
The shoulders are protected by a hand waxed shoulder yoke, made out of a vintage military duffle bag. The repairs and scars were left untouched and retains the uniqueness of whomever made them. The right shoulder has a quilted rifle pad using a dense open cell synthetic foam that will not retain moisture while the left shoulder displays the stamped leather logo. The front of the canvas is closed via a hidden snap to help keep the warmth in no matter how you move.
Additional features include 2 deep chest pockets, interior pocket for a wallet or phone, and brass hardware throughout. The hood is detachable via 3 snaps under the collar and is lined with coordinating spruce green flannel and a soft wool synthetic at the top to retain the heat. The exterior of the hood has a southwest canvas accent that matches the cuff plackets on the sleeve. The original tag is stitched inside framed with two vintage silk Japanese kimono fabrics from the early 20th century.
